Hadley started at Sheiling School at the end of October 2016 after his previous SEN school could no longer support his needs. He settled reasonably well considering he had been at home without a school placement for approximately 8 weeks.
Hadley has autism, severe anxiety and learning difficulties with behaviour issues. Since he has been at Sheiling School we have noticed more confidence in him. When he returns from school he talks about his school day, his lessons and his classmates, even when he’s had a bad day. As a family we have never experienced this at all before. He seems to be taking in things from his teachers and learning support assistants. Hadley loves nature. The sense of calm and well being he gets from being outdoors is reflected by staff in school. When pupils are interested and engaged in what they’re doing it can help them to learn to focus better. The talents of the children such as painting, woodwork and making a pizza oven, are fantastic. They learn a lot of life skills like baking, self-help skills, social skills, animal care and self-calming techniques. The staff seem very dedicated, supporting and caring. There’s a sense that they really want these young people to do well. With thanks from all Hadley’s family.
