Admissions
CURRENT VACANCIES
Thank you for your interest in Sheiling School.
Please note that we have now reached full capacity for day placements.
A limited number of residential placements remain available; for further details please contact admissions@sheilingschool.org.uk
We do not operate a waiting list, but updates to the current situation and admission for September 2023 will be posted on this website.
Sheiling School is an independent school and children’s home for children and young people aged 6-19 with special educational needs, offering day and residential placements for 52 weeks, termly and weekly boarders.
We cater for a wide range of SEND diagnoses including autism, autism spectrum disorders, communication difficulties, attachment issues, moderate to severe learning difficulties and behavioural, emotional & social difficulties. We welcome applications for children and young people from any social, religious and ethnic background.
Please note that we do not operate a waiting list; when vacancies arise placements are allocated following careful consideration of suitability within the current dynamics of the individual class rather than being designated on a ‘first come first served’ or ‘age only’ basis. Although a suitable class or residential space may be available at the point of enquiry, a firm offer of placement cannot be made until we are confident that we can meet the young person’s needs and funding has been formally agreed. Regrettably, we are unable to hold a place open in the meantime.
We welcome enquiries from prospective parents and Local Authorities.
To find out more please email us at admissions@sheilingschool.org.uk or call 01454 412 194 to contact a member of the team.
Please note that due to Covid-19, we are not in a position to arrange any informal visits or tours of our provision until further notice.
Admissions – Making Your Decision
Before you begin the admissions process, we know that you will want to be confident that Sheiling School is the right school for your child. The best way to find this out is by coming to visit us.
Please note that due to Covid-19, we are not in a position to arrange any informal visits or tours of our provision until further notice.
When we are in a position to resume our visiting opportunities, the following steps requests will be made:
Before a visit can be arranged, we will ask you to complete a ‘Visit form’ which asks for very brief information about your child’s needs. This will give us an opportunity to make a very tentative, initial assessment of your child’s needs and suitability so that we can ensure a) that your visit is purposeful and b) that we may welcome further assessment if this is requested by the funding authority.
If a visit is scheduled, you will be welcome to come, either with or without your child and you’ll be able to tour the site and see our facilities. You can also meet our staff, and talk to us about any concerns that you have or ask us questions.
The main steps in the admission procedure are as follows:
- We ask you for relevant reports to consider your child’s needs in detail
- If we can be of help we will arrange for you to visit the school
- Once a place is offered and funding is confirmed, we will work on transition
