Christmas Market 2016

A very warm THANK YOU to everyone who turned out to support our annual Christmas Market on Saturday 3rd December, helping to make it a really enjoyable and profitable event. The total takings on the day were an amazing £3,373.00!! The afternoon was very well attended, and it was a pleasure to welcome so many of our young people and their families. In particular it was wonderful to welcome back a number of former students and staff as well as residents from the neighbouring Hatch Community.

Amongst the impressive variety of stalls were the Tombola, Silk Marbling (thanks to Sarah Falber), Books and DVDs. Also on sale was craftwork from our own Weavery, Woodwork and Pottery, as well as greetings cards printed from artwork created by our pupils. We were delighted this year to welcome George and Jane King on their Wood Turning stall, Millie Irvine selling her Hand-creams, Lisa Hunnego on her Woollen Kiwi stall and Pat-Michele Moody’s mum on the clothes stall. A new addition to our stalls this year was the Advent Tree. With all the fantastic prizes on offer the Tree was a big hit. For younger folk there were a range of activities including Tie Dye (thanks to Faye Young), Candle Making, Gingerbread Decorating, a Puppet Workshop and Crown Making. It was lovely that the Hatch could join us on this occasion and their finely crafted items were fabulous.

As ever, the Café was very popular and especially well attended, as were the Outdoor Pizza Oven and the Waffle, Chestnut and Mulled Wine hut. Thanks to all those who worked so hard to source, make and sell the magnificent food and drink on offer.

Special thanks to Graham Dixon whose beautiful piano playing accompanied the afternoon. Graham has generously given his time to us over the years and we are so grateful for his musical contribution – hope you can come back next year, Graham!

Thanks too to our great maintenance team and everyone who organised the advertising, banners, bunting, tables and other background necessities, as well as St Mary’s School and the Hatch for the loan of extra tables and the Castle School for once again kindly letting us use their grounds for parking. After many years of trying we finally managed to put our new banner to advertise the Market on the iron pump in Thornbury at the junction on the High street. This was indeed a triumphant moment!

The Raffle and Auction were held towards the end of the afternoon. There were some superb prizes available this year, and we extend a grateful thanks to all the individuals and companies who supported our event through their generosity and sponsorship, as well as those who purchased Raffle Tickets and bid for the prizes. We hope you’ll continue to support us again next time.

Finally, thanks to all our staff and their relatives and friends who offered their time and expertise to help make this year’s event so worthwhile. Enjoy the photos!
