Candlemas Day Celebration

It was a cloudy but dry and cold day as we celebrated Candlemas by walking along our wonderful new Nature Trail, lighting the earth candles made by the pupils along the way. The candles had been previously prepared and were placed unlit at strategic points along the Trail’s boundary. With a lantern to lead the way, pupils lit these beautiful earth candles -which were even made from clay sourced from our own land! This celebration ended as all good events do, with some delicious hot chocolate and home-made biscuits from our bakery-thank you Anna Marie! The warmth from the outdoor fire in the Bushcraft area and if you were lucky enough to sit in the Bushcraft shelter (which was very toasty as you can see from the picture below) made it an even more special experience.

So we can look forward to an early Spring if the old weather prediction for Candlemas is right which tell the tale in an old English song that we always sing on this day……

“When Candlemas day is bright with sun, then the winter’s but half begun, but when Candlemas day is filled with rain then winter’s power is on the wane”
