Candlemas Day 2017

Festivals form an important part of life at the Sheiling School and on Thursday 2nd February we celebrated Candlemas.

According to the Christian calendar this is the occasion forty days after Christmas when the child Jesus was presented in the Temple. The day is also traditionally considered to mark the end of winter and the first stirrings of Spring. We celebrated by turning our thoughts to the earth and lighting Earth Candles, which are clay pots filled with beeswax, made by our pupils. We went for a walk around the school’s estate, then enjoyed singing and refreshments around the fire.
