The Sheiling School provides a safe, happy environment in which the child can learn.
 |
- Teaching is in small, peer group classes, or one to one according to particular needs in different subjects.
- Statements of complex educational needs are met entirely within the school.
- A high staff ratio enables the pupils’ to participate in all aspects of learning.
- A teaching co-ordinator oversees all aspects of the curriculum.
|
|
- The curriculum is broad based, balanced and pupil centred and covers all aspects of the national curriculum.
- The school’s strong arts and crafts orientation, with painting, modelling, movement, basketry, pottery, woodwork and weaving, balances the academic work.
- Many of our staff live on site, and so they get to know the pupils very well, at home and in school.
- Relevant work in the class room can be readily integrated with home life activities, such as the use of money on shopping trips.
- The school has its own indoor swimming pool, gym and craft workshops of the highest quality.
The purpose of the various crafts is to:
encourage expression of choices and ideas;
engage pupils in creative processes which develop patience and determination;
introduce good work practices and develop physical co-ordination, strength and judgment;
allow the pupil to evaluate his or her own work in a way which is often not possible with academic work.
